How to win in SFIV continued

Lately I’ve refrained from playing SFIV online, to play against the CPU instead (on hardest, mind you). On that difficulty the CPU is extremely aggressive and it’s a good way to find weaknesses and traps.

Unfortunately, the CPU is too predictable and can’t compare with a real human player. Given a certain distance, Zangief will always do the same (futile) attack. Cammy always performs her ultra when her life is low and I’m crouching. It doesn’t take long before you find yourself exploiting the AI rather than fighting an honest match.

As a training tool it is just as useless, because no online player is ever as aggressive as the CPU. Only the really good players are, because they are not afraid.

Today I played against the CPU for a while before growing bored and jumped online for a quickie. The guy who I was facing was a couple of grades higher than me and picked Ryu against my Chun-Li. I was glad he picked Ryu because he had an Akuma icon and that’s never a good sign.

The match starts. Guy instantly jumps back into a corner and throws fireballs. I back off and respond with some kikokens (girly fireballs). Guy continues to throw more fireballs, wearing my health down ever so slightly every time I block. I eventually grow bored and decides to instigate the attack myself. I begin to jump ahead, over his fireballs. He backs off even more as my vicinity opens up the space behind him. As I make my jump to finally get close enough to kick his face he performs and connects a Shuryuken and promptly jumps across to the opposite side of the screen. I was thinking “Great, another one of these pussies”.

I rarely win these kinds of matches as there is little I can do with Chun-Li’s limited offensive skills, but I proved determined. His predictability was, as with the CPU, his greatest weakness. If I got close enough when he threw his fireball he would open up a small pocket of opportunity where I could jump in and try to do as much damage as I could before he could regain control of the situation. It was hardly enough damage to deter him but combined with a safe defensive play I could eventually take the win.

Then I quit the game.

we should make an online group of people who like to play for the fight, not the numbers! and make a private invite list so if we see eachother online, that is who we play, i pretty much do that now, i play my brother and kept the names of the very few fair-fight players I have run into, i just play them and have a great time.

That’s a great idea. I only have one other irl friend whom enjoy SF4 as much as I do but he doesn’t play online much. I’m not very good at collecting friends on PSN so I don’t have the luxury of playing much online, for the fun of it I mean.

Yeah playing against Akuma is a Hassle-hoff. The jumping fireball attack is more annoying than any attack I’ve experiences before. I still find thrills in playing online because I get those 1 mm of health made the difference in the match. The really close battles are the best. Even if I lose.

How exactly does one invite friends to play? I wanted to try RE5 with my friend but couldn’t find his game in the lobby. Nor did we find any way to send invites. Same with Street Fighter 4.
