Why the PSP is still awesome (rant)

I’ve been playing my PSP a lot more ever since I bought DJMAX. Either I play a song now and then or I lie down in my bed and waste a couple of hours trying to beat some of the harder songs. I’ve been thinking about buying the new sequel, but I’m afraid I’ll stop playing the first one and not unlock all the songs. Maybe in a few more weeks.
I mentioned I got Disgaea and it’s just as awesome as the original. It’s all in japanese (couldn’t wait for the US release), but I can still play it with the only exception that I can’t read what the geo symbols do. If you’ve played it you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Raymond just hooked me up with the most recent custom firmware so now I can play PS1 games too. I downloaded Final Fantasy Tactics yesterday and it worked like a charm! Pretty damn cool.
Singapore has a much more healthy view on portable gaming. A lot of people here get around by the MRT and other means of public transportation. It’s hard for me to ride the MRT and not see some kid, student or even full grown man playing either a Nintendo DS or a PSP. It’s not uncommon to see highschoolers sitting inside a Burger King playing Monster Hunter 2 or whatever. Sometimes people walk around, as if guided by some sort of auto-pilot, with their eyes fixed at the screen.
Back home in sweden I guess it would be okay if you wanted to play on the bus or something, but if you’re walking around with your DS in hand people will look at you funny. I always carry my DS and my PSP with me now in case I ever feel like beating another dungeon or listen to a song I don’t have to feel awkward to do so wherever I might be at the time.
On a side note I bought X-Com: Terror from the deep on Steam for $2.45 a few days ago. Another classic I should play. It’s probably over a decade old but it still holds up. I know I could probably download it for free, but come on. 2 bucks!? I’m not that cheap.
