Even more game

February 28th, 2007 by Erik Benerdal

Playstation + FFXII

This may sound silly to any non-european, but I finally got FFXII! It just came out in europe so I was thinking about “importing” it. (It feels so weird to say that). But I didn’t have to. I bought Michelle’s US PS2 (although technically I think it belongs to Dan, our ex lead artist. Sorry Dan.) for fifty dollah (250 SEK).

They sell US games here so I was able to just pick it up in a local store. Games are usually pretty cheap here compared to Sweden (60-80%), but since it’s Final fantasy they bumped the price so it was pretty much the same as if I would’ve imported it. Another good thing is that this PS2 works with the TV I got earlier from Niall so I can play in my room =3

On a sad note, Michelle left for Sweden yesterday (;_;) Until we meet again, I’m going to miss you Mich.

PS. I don’t have any internet at home at the moment. Still waiting for my company to pay the bill.

Back in the game!

Disgaea 2

Since my favourite gaming console of all time (PS2) is european (PAL) I’ve been unable to buy any games here in singapore. So naturally while I was home over xmas I bought a whole bunch of games and I was so stoked about getting some téte-à-téte between me and my PS2.

But as soon as I got back from Singapore I was told not to unpack anything because I had to move to my current appartment. Problem was the TV here is totally JACKED! If you turn it on the image is super stretched and it’s making an alarming noise like it’s about to explode or something. Luckily Daniel (who was moving out) had a TV I could buy for a cheap dollar so I did. Yet again my plans were foiled as that TV didn’t agree with my PS2’s PAL signal. Christ.

I’ve been talking to Michelle about buying her TV, but since I’m only going to use it for playing games I don’t want to pay too much. Especially considering I already bought a TV >>;

But! My worries are over. It turns out, while the TV here is very much jacked, if you leave it on for 10-15 minutes the image will slowly correct itself and you’re able to actually make out the picture. I just hooked up my PS2 and it worked fine. Played some Tekken just to be safe.

This is such a relief. Now I can finally finish Rule of Rose and Killer7 as well as get started on Disgaea 2. Ftw.

Lightning go boom

February 17th, 2007 by Erik Benerdal

Because of chinese new year I got off work early yesterday. It was raining when I left but I didn’t let it bother me. As I was running over the bridge to get across the street I could hear thunder and it sounded awefully close. Right on top of me as a matter of fact.

I quickened my pace because, well.. The chance of me being hit by lightning may be small, but it’s hell of a lot higher if I happen to be right in the middle of the thunder storm.. on a raised bridge.

As soon as I had crossed the bridge and reached the back of the mall across the street the wall in front of me lights up in a bright blueish light and I hear a huge explosion. I had my back against it but I could tell it struck probably around 10-15 meters behind me where I had just been running.

It’s definetly the closest I’ve been to a lightning strike in my life. I’m glad luck was on my side that day.

My initial reaction was to jump in the air and chuckle. Like “Haha! I had a feeling it was gonna strike and I was right!”. But half a second later I realized how dangerous the situation really was and I quickly collected myself and jogged inside the mall.

I’m trying not to sound too dramatic, but I should’ve known better. In sweden you’re lucky if you get to witness a good thunder storm in a year. You glue your face to the window and try to spot a lightning as they strike every 5-10 minute or so. Singaporean thunder is different. They can be local to a small area and lightning will strike 1-2 times a minute. They’re big and loud.

Excitement turned into paranoia and I still had to stand outside under a metal roof for half an hour waiting in line for a damn taxi. All I could do was stand there and think about water and metal, and how to avoid it.

Who turned off the lights?

February 15th, 2007 by Erik Benerdal

Can't see shit, captain

So I got home yesterday and a letter had been slipped under the door. I didn’t think about it much. I put it on the table and reached for the light.

No light. Crap. Better check the fuse box. Nope. Everything looks okay. Maybe there’s a power shortage? Nope. My neighbours seem to be okay. Weird.

I decide to go out for some food. Maybe they power will be back once I’ve had some dinner.

Halfway to the MRT station it hits me. The letter! Did my company “forget” to pay the utilities bill? Craaaap.

I eat and watch a movie to kill some time. Once back at the I read the letter (using my DS Lite as my only light source) (..ftw) and it was indeed a notice saying that our power had been disconnected.

No power naturally means no computer, no internet. But unfortunately it also means no A/C and no hot water. I can live without hot water and my computer if I really have to, but not having A/C is the worst.

We’ve just entered a period where the the weather is super hot and super dry. My room was probably upwards 30 degrees. Opening the window did nothing. In fear of dehydration I soaked a towel in cold water and slept on that. I’m sure my recently ill body just loved that.

Usually I would throw a fit over this. I did it the last time they neglected the bills (but payed in the last minute). I guess I’m not surprised anymore. Utility bills are not very high on the company’s priority list. At least not until the final pink notice arrives.

This better be the last time something like this ever happens. My patience is running out.

[Update #1]
I’ve recieved word that the power will be reactivated sometime tonight. I’ll prolly stay late at the office just to be safe.

[Update #2]
Power seem to be back on, but only half of it. I got my computer running and my A/C.. but none of the ceiling lamps in the appartment are working. It’s still very dark.

Tiny creatures

There are tiny creatures running around on my desk. I started noticing them after I moved to the new appartment. They’re too small to be baby cockroaches and they seem pretty harmless. Sometimes there’s just one or two, sometimes a whole bunch. They seem to like darkness and sugar. Leftover food not so much. What could they be?

Are they perhaps, angels?

I’m sick

Bleh. Throat… hurting! Can’t… speak.. *dies*

Our company has a rule about sick leave. If you ever get sick you need to get a medical certificate from a doctor to prove that you’re not making it up. I’ve been mostly ignoring this rule but today I decided to go. My throat have been pretty bad throughout the weekend and I spent my entire saturday lying in bed.. which kind of sucks. So I figured seeing a doctor couldn’t hurt.

Medicare appears to be privatized here in Singapore, which isn’t something I’m very used to. I’m used to having the government deal with (and partially pay for) my medical problems. So I guess I was a bit reluctant to go there.. but I went.

The doctor I talked to was nice and he gave me a bag of pills and cough syrup, so I guess all my fears were unfounded. Hopefully the nasty pain in the back of my throat will go away soon (._.)

Chaos: Battle of the wizards

Escapist Magazine wrote a lengthy article about Chaos: The Battle of the wizards, y’know that somewhat unknown game I used as primary inspiration for Chaos Reborn.

It’s an interesting read.

I bought a DS Lite

Actually, I got it over a week ago. I know I’m pretty late. The original DS was released back in 2005, but I just couldn’t see myself buying it back then. I remember trying it in the store and it just looked too damn gay, Mario 64 didn’t do it for me because it gave me horrible flashbacks of the ol’ N64.

The new Lite model is a lot closer to what I would call “proper” design. In fact there’s nothing wrong with it’s design what-so-ever. It’s nice. It sits well in my hands and the backlighting is great. The DS had an awesome year 2006 and a lot of games came out that I could actually see myself playing, so this idea of buying one have been churning in my head for while now.

I got Age of Empires, it came with the system (for pennies), but I bought Castlevania: Portait of Ruin just in case because I already knew it was a good buy. A few days later I got the new Phoenix Wright game. I’ve been trying like crazy to get the original Phoenix wright game (not counting the GBA games) but it’s near impossible to find older games in this damn city.

Back home I rarely bought games on the day of their release. I knew if I waited a few months I could get it a lot cheaper. Well, unless it was a game I really couldn’t wait for. Most of my games I bought used and sometimes I would find some game that I had totally forgotten about. That’s not how it works here, apparently. Once the sequel is out, they chuck the original. Out with the old, in with the new. No bargain bins. No resale of used games. Ugh. Trauma Center is also impossible to find. I asked a clerk if they had it, and he called to every shop in the chain and they didn’t have it in. I was really looking forward to trying it too. Oh well..

PS. I included my PSP in the photo below just to show you guys that I’m no where near done with it. Tekken: Dark Resurrection is the best damn game I’ve played on any handheld ever, period. I’m neither a sony-fan or a nintendo fanboy. I just want to play some f-ing games. DS. (keke)

Figures galore

February 1st, 2007 by Erik Benerdal

Just thought I would post some photos of the shop I buy most of my anime figures from. It’s really hard to find these things in sweden, but here they barely have enough room for them.
